At least one Avenue B & East Broadway Transit number 416 a Mack C-41 ex-Yonkers was sold to Staten Island Transit sometime in 1970. They kept the Ave. B colors and replaced the logo with an American flag and added the block letter stencil script on the side under the windows that say Staten Island Transit.

Not only did Ave. B buy rundown buses but they also sold them!

Just did a quick search of the "AVENUE B" photos at nycsubway.org; no photos of #416.

Long ago, I had mentioned that the now long-defunct "BLUE & WHITE" (North Bergen, NJ), back in the 70s, was operating several ex-Yonkers "New Look" MACKS, and also used two older MACKS (ex-Yonkers) as storage sheds.............

Interesting, too.......

The "Borough of Bunker" (Queens) was the only borough where postwar ACF-BRILLS could be found in revenue service.

These buses were the 15 C-44s operated by "QUEENS TRANSIT"...........

Judging by these photos (1979/1980), it's obvious that "GREEN BUS" had retired their "Kramden" fleet at least several years earlier........rust in pieces, old friends..........

Actually these were ex-Jamaica Buses transferred to Green Bus Lines in 1978. A total of 13 TDH-5106 were transferred.

Going by these photos, we can see that "GREEN BUS", like the other area "indy" outfits then in operation, purchased the RTS early on, unlike the MTA.............

Good point; agreed 100%.

Even though we've discussed this previously, I often wonder about the "Em-Tee-Yay's" bus fleet (circa-1979/1980) had they gone with the "slant back" RTS (as did the Queens indies) instead of making a big investment with the purchase of the infamous "Borough Bombers".

Strange, though, despite early RTS operating in Queens, you STILL saw "Bombers" making the rounds...........

"En-Jay-Tee", obviously, was NOT interested in "keeping up with the Joneses", as they did not purchase their "foist" RTS until the later 1990s, a decade-and-a-half AFTER the "Em-Tee-Yay" began purchasing them in large numbers.............

Thinking..........

Had the old Queens independents remained "indy" to their present day, ther fleets would, of course, now be comprised of monstrous, slithering "Slinkies" and inspid, economy-sized milk cartons.

Still, the old, established names would have still been with us (that is, unless these independents all merged with one another, creating a new Queens conglomerate).............

Here is an interesting study in "contrasts" up at Orchard Beach, between an "Em-Tee-Yay" RTS and a Fishbowl rostered by "JAMAICA BUS" (indeed interesting to see the evolution in transit bus design, within the span of some 20-odd years)................
