Thanks, Q65A! I wonder how the "Bus Grease Monkey" driving his Silversides got in there? |

LOL; there definitely are some odd shots in some of these videos (e.g. TTC Orion Vs, etc. in a video about Fishbowls).
There also are some inaccuracies.
The GM New Looks did not pioneer monocoque body construction; the Old Looks did:

I believe the GM New Looks introduced air suspensions and fluorescent lighting on GM transits, along with the use of silversides and large sliding windows on GM transits. |

I noticed the inappropriate photos and inaccuracies also. A lot of videos are like that these days, it seems. It's funny that just when they were talking about the Allison automatic transmissions, they were showing a guy driving one with a stick shift. I'm pretty sure the later Old Looks had air suspensions also. Anyway, it was an entertaining watch. |

For clarification purposes after 1953 all bus models, both urban and intercity, had air suspension. The models were the TDH-3714, TDH-4512, TDH/M-4515, TDH-4801, TDH-5105, TDH-5106, TDM/H-5108 and the PD-4104.
Silversides and long sliding windows were introduced with the PD-4104.
Fluorescent lights were also available on the TDH-5104 spring suspension buses and some of the transits after 1953. |

| Thanks for the clarification, MaBSTOA 15. I didn't want to trust my memory and didn't want to look it up! |

Cannot believe it is now nearly 30 years since I last rode aboard a Fishbowl (an ex-Cleveland bus, running on the NHBL #1, out of Journal Square)
Still miss these classic BUSES today.........)

Cyberider:
I've read (online) of a Greyhound buff in Holland, of all places, who restored a SILVERSIDES, some years back.
As a kid,I well remember seeing them in charter services, back in the 1960s......CLASSIC buses, for certain!

| I remember them too from when I was a kid. Getting stuck behind one going up a mountain in our 1957 VW Microbus camper and not having the power to pass. The rear windows were fascinating from that position. |

In my general neighborhood when I was a kid, we did not start to see Fishbowls (transits) until around 1966/1867;
I always liked them (I used to call them "Jetson Buses" and World's Fair Buses"!); the only thing I didn't like is that they began replacing older buses I loved, like the Old Looks, MACKS, WHITES, and BRILLS.
The suburban Fishbowls I always found particularly attractive! (I have many vintage tin toy Fishbowls in my collection today!)

| New Looks (I don't remember anyone referring to them as Fishbowls back then) arrived early in Phoenix, 1959 or 1960, as I recall, much to my chagrin. They were replacing some of my beloved Old Looks and they didn't look right nor sound right. At this point, 2026, they're way better than anything that came after and I spent a lot of time riding them back in the day. |

Cyberider:
At least the Fishbowls LOOKED and SOUNDED like BUSES; thet did NOT look like they had been designed by sinister, alien life forms, nor did they emit sounds more atkin to a Dusbuster in serious need of re-charging.
