Good to see at least SOME of the now-veteran " Brighton Belle" R-68s are still in "sovice".

Your's Truly finds it so ironic that NTTs now rule the "C"; tradionally, for most of the time, the oldest equipment was assigned to this route (I still recall when it only operated during rush hours)

I can remember (on the "CC" in the mid-70s) "Arnines". then, for many years, the "Thunderboid" Artens (now, the "CC" was the "C")

I remember too, briefly, when "R-44/46" being on the "CC" very early 80s, before going back to "Artens".

Then, for a few years, the "Redboids on sterioids" ("R-27/R-30"s)", until the GOH'd "Brightliners".

These are what I last remember, when I retired back in 2004..........

.........with the last true stronghold of the faithful old "Fordy-Fors" over on "The Isle of Staten" now under NTT rule, transit buffs are now finding less and less to ride and to photograph, regarding the "Old Guard".

Looks like the Rockaways will see the very last of the old 'Fordy-Fours", at some time in the not-too-distant-future........

I had "hoid" about the Disneyland monorail power failure earlier; it is obvious that the current trainsets (and control systems) are equipped with far more hi-tech "Buzz Lightyear" electronic wizardry than early generations.

Don't get me started on that insipid "AIRTRAIN", which would certainly be more appropriate for a theme park.........

Recall, eons ago, when subway cars were all single units, with cabs at each end?

On "the tubes", the very last single-unit cars were the 1958 "joint service "PRR/H&M cars.

Today, ft course, we have sets comprised of multiple cars

Last single-unit cars to operate on the "Isle of Staten" were the 1925 "ME-1s".

Then, too, recall trailers; the "modern" IND only rostered motor cars, unlike the older IRT and BMT.

The "Aitch & EM", likewise, never rostered trailers (the SIRT, however, did roster a number of trailers)......

When PATH's "PA"-class was introduced in 1965, they came in two different styles.

There were the cab-equipped "A" cars and the "C" cars (no cabs)..........

Interesting thought..........

Recall the darkest days of 1981, when over 2,100 subway cars failed to answer the "call to duty", due to years of deferred maintainence and rampant vandalism.

Now.........

Imagine those "dark days" being with us at the present.........how would today's Ultra high-tech subway fleet fare, if suffering the fromthe insideous affects of years of severe negect?

And, remember, the old SMEEs were BUILT LIKE TANKS (and built right here in America!) and yet, look at how seriously they suffered, back in the early 1980s......ya gotta think...........

Look at the old photos of scrapped "Standards" (aka "Broadway Battleships") stacked one on top of the other, with the car bodies still holding up, despite the crushing pressure.

Ditto for scrapped "Kramdens", piled one atop the other...........
