On this day in 2026.........
Mayor Zohran Mamdani was sworn in on the platform of the historic, long-abandoned IRT City Hall station.
A dignified (and, IMHO, most appropriate!) setting for the swearing in of a new "Noo Yawk" mayor............

*On Eyewitness News (4PM), when report was on showing the new "Hizzoner" being sworn in at the old City Hall station, there was a quick shot of a "6" train (R-62 "Silverboids") just entering the station)

On this day in 2017........
FINALLY, after a delay of DECADES, the "foist" section of the Second Avenue "stubway" opens (cannot believe that this took place close to nine years ago, already).......

And on the few times I've been on it, it's not exactly been packed to the gills. But then again, I've not been on it during rush hours, for the most part . . . |

W.B.:
One can only wonder wonder what ridership on the "Stubway" would be like today, had it been completed 70-odd years ago, as was originally planned.
In thinking of this, I wonder ifthe new "Tee-Yay" might have added a route designation letter, for "through" 2nd Avenue trains?
Might an existing route also run along "SAS" rails, during rush hours, as a "branch"?
Alas, we will never know............

"Bee" line rolling stock..........
Any of the "old veterans" still in use on the "Bee", or has the "new order" totally taken over?

I might find out over the weekend. Now that everything's all "Ahm-knee," I can ditch any and all MetroCards I'd had (and they were all used up, anyhow). |

If you do "venture forth", I will, of course, be very much interested as to the status of older equipment on the "Bee".
WHY the need to go with electronic fare cards will always allude me; does EVERYTHING have to be "hi-tech" just because we are now in the "highly advanced" 21st century
Personally, as far as "high-tech" is concerned, I only go as far as "Buzz Lightyear", and no "foither"(!!)
Still wierd to think that, when the veteran "Brighton Belle" R-68s are finally retired, the fleet will be 100% "NTT", with nary a nod to the old "tried and true".........

| Yep. Those growing up from here on out will never know what real forms of transportation (whether rapid or surface) actually looked like, or how they performed. |

W.B.:
Agreed.
All the more reason why historic transit photos and preserved vintage transit vehicles are indeed valuable legacies.
If today's younger generation would view what YOU remember of transit, back in your younger days (and think it boring), they would TOTALLY view what I grew up with, 60-odd years ago, as nothing more than uninteresting relics of a long-ago past, a past which,, sadly, they have no interest in whatsoever.
Bad enough everything today are but "BINOs", "Slinkies", giant mutated insects, and the like.....that's all they will EVER know........

Cannot believe it now costs $3.00 to ride a "Noo Yawk" bus or subway; express buses are now charging over 7 bucks one way.
MN and the "El-Eye-Double-Are fares, have also jumped.
PATH's current (new fare) is light-years beyond the 30 cents I so well recall, when I started to "woik" downtown, in early 1979
If I were still working, Your's Truly be working just to pay for his commutation.........

One key reason why, as I live in "Noo Yawk," when looking for work I specifically seek employment within Manhattan itself, and not the outer environs. |

W.B.:
I think you are wise.
Shoot, even paper transfers no longer exist.
What Your's Truly was pulling in each week, when I retired back in 2004, would barely be enough for my twice-daily commutation from "Joisey", no matter which way I chose to come into the city by..........
