Also..........

From historic photos I have seen, it would seem that "motor coach" was more of an "experimental" frame of mind, than its "Noo Yawk" counterpart.

Two experimental YELLOW double-deckers were delivered to"motor coach" in 1926, equipped with a gas/electric drive system, which proved unsuccessful.

Both buses had enclosed upper decks.........

I've always found this interesting..........

The only Old Looks (and MACKS) in the "See-Tee-Yay's" fleet were those which were originally rostered by CMMCo.

During the 1950s, of course, the "See-Tee-Yay" was indeed more than enamored with the postwar "Oddballs", which they rostered in the hundreds.

It would have been interesting to see what models of "Gee-Em's" CTA might have purchased, prior to the first Fishbowls and "Dangerfields".......

Also:

Had "motor coach" lasted into the 1960s, would they have gone "gung ho" with Flex New Looks ("Dangerfields") or Fishbowls instead? (or, possibly, a group of each)...........

The CTA also acquired Yellow Coach and GM old look models from Chicago Surface Lines.

Said models were TG-3205, TD-3605, TG-4007, TD-4506 and TDH-4507.

What fascinates me is the difference in the purchase of buses between Chicago Motor Coach and Fifth Avenue Coach.

CMC had Ford Transits, GM TDH-3207, Yellow Coach TD-4501, TD-4502, TD-4505 and the super king size TDH-5502.

As well as the 102 inch wide TDH-5103.

Their Mack C-50 were also102 inches wide.

FACO had none of these their king size GM TDH-5104 and TDH-5106 were all 96 inches wide including the infamous Mack C-50.

By the way CMC was smart to buy only eight Mack C-50 while FACO had 25 of them.

MaBSTOA 15:

Appreciate the historical info.......thanks! Wink

After purchasing John F. Doyle's excellent book on "motor coach", I was QUITE surprised that they also operated some FORDS (certainly, FACCo never did; PSNJ, on the other hand, rostered quite a few)

CSL also rostered a number of those quirky-looking, distinctive "slant back" TWINS (ALWAYS loved these distinctive-looking buses!)Very Happy

They lasted well into the CTA era, and, obviously, were TOUGH customers!

Imagine CTA rostering those distinctive, eye-catching Old Looks, the ones with "the sign that sticks out in the front", once commonplace here in "Noo Yawk? Wink

Just like FACCo....

CMCCo, like its "Noo Yawk" counterpart, was indeed a steadfast YELLOW/GM cusomer, throughout the years.............

"Independence".......

In "Shik-aga", CMCCo was absorbed into the CTA in 1952; FACL lasted into 1962, before becoming part of "stoa"............
