HOW do YOU spell "PATHETIC"? Rolling Eyes

"2025 N-E-W-Y-O-R-K-M-E-T-S"

Just briefly "hoid" on 1010 WINS that the Mets are now APOLOGIZING to the fans!!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked

Now, THIS tells you the team has REALLY hit the skids. Sad

IMHO, the "REAL" Mets ceased to exist after the played their last game at Shea.......man, it's SAD, and most especially so, with "doze squeakers" now standing high on a pedestal of of sheer arrogance, with legions of adoring fans fawning over them........ Sad

Remember.........

Long, long ago, the Mets were known as the "Loveable Losers"?

Well, they are indeed LOSERS these days, but haven't been "loveable" in the slightest, since playing their last game at the now-gone Shea.......... Razz

My late mother had her own variation of the Durante line - "disgusticated."

But yeah. I'd say that the seeds of the "real" Mets dying off came when former owner Fred Wilpon took over full ownership of the team after sharing it with Nelson Doubleday since 1980. Remember, Wilpon's purse was adversely affected by the whole Madoff business, harming the team in many ways. I think I mentioned that even current owner Steve Cohen was shocked by their just-ended season's implosion - when I read that, it immediately sounded to me like the Capt. Renault character in Casablanca being shocked - shocked! - that gambling was going on in the casino.

As for those "AYF's," I know their excuse - "One difference between the two teams: The Yankees actually know how to win." I can hear that occasionally in my sleep. Never mind that they haven't won a World Championship since 2009 and last year got shellacked by "El-Lay."

Oh, and speaking of "disgusticating," the Jets - another hollow shell of the days when Joe Namath was the star player - lost to "My-Ammy," their record now 0-4. There was a YouTube clip about Namath and his squandered potential post-Super Bowl III, and comparisons were made to Mickey Mantle who managed Hall of Fame records in batting, etc., even with his bum knee (and wild lifestyle off the field), while with Namath the only ones who gained were the doctors who kept operating on his (you'll see the analyses in the comments section):

https://youtu.be/uw6KYFranwg

One money quote:

"Mantle turned adversity into highlight reels, while Namath's knees made doctors rich and Jets fans dream of what might've been."

Your mother would have been SPOT ON!

Seems as though "Noo Yawk" sports (in all its aspects) these days indeed sure ain't nothing to write home about. Razz

NOW, let's see if those "AGs" (aka "Animated Globetrotters") will be cheering on the "Kan-ikker-bokers" to a decent season; then, too the "RAYN-gers and the "EYE-landers".............. Rolling Eyes

Speaking of which, in pre-season play, the "RAYN-gers" beat the "EYE-landers" in a squeaker (a phenomenon, evidently, not limited to baseball).

Of course, with basketball, there's also the Brooklyn Nets . . . another team who's had their ups and downs since joining the "En-Bee-Yay" whilst in "Joisey" . . .

W.B.:

I am quite sure that Stan Fischler is hoping that, this season, both the "RAYN-gers" and the "EYE-landers" create a lot of intense "fire on ice", giving "Noo Yawk" an advantage in the sports world, in hockey, anyway........ Wink

Jimmy Kimmel in Brooklyn........

His stage paid AWESOME tribute to the Coney Island boardwalk, complete with stands, booths, signs, etc.

The front of his desk read "BROOKLYN", perfectly replicating a classic tile subway station sign! Wink

During a skit outside, quite a few "BINOs" were seen going back and forth (also, a few "Slinkies") Wink

Now, on to Kimmel and the Mets........

Turns out, he was ROOTING for the Mets (wearing a Mets cap and shirt!) and was BLITZED when they LOST, and were out of the post season. Sad

Jimmy went on as to how, earlier in the year, the Mets were the BEST team in baseball, and were riding high on the hog, and their fans were ecstatic.

Then, he went on about how the team just tanked, and never fully recovered. Sad

Jimmy:

"......instead of the Mets being known as the 'Amazing Mets', they should now be known as the "F***ing Mets......."

".....the only reason Mr. Met hasn't hung himself yet, is because he can't get the noose around that big head of his......."

When a late-night comic from "El-Ay" TRASHES the Mets, you KNOW the team has hit the rock-bottom! Sad

Jimmy on the Marlins:

"......they're not even a REAL team....they're a MADE-UP team.....Shocked

Sure glad I didn't miss tonight's show....(!!) Wink

Regretting.......

More than several times, many, many years ago, I vowed I would attend at least a few Mets games at Shea.

As I was then too busy railfanning (especially the subways and "the tubes") I never seemed to have to time to attend even ONE game at the now-gone, hallowed Shea Stadium.

Thinking back, it would have been a wonderful experience to see the REAL Mets playing a REAL game, via a trip out on the then all-SMEE #7!

Oh, well...............

BTW:

Been hearing quite a few comments of Jimmy Kimmel's MAJOR-LEAGUE ROASTING of the Mets last evening (as much as it pains me to say so, I have not the SLIGHTEST sympathy for either management or the players.....they dug their own grave, so, it was now time to lie in it)....... Sad

Today's baseball quiz:

Q:

WHY is "Mr. Met" standing on his HEAD Question

A:

As a SMILE is but a FROWN upside down, that trademark smile of his would be replaced by a more appropriate FROWN, for obvious reasons. Sad

Just joking, here, but it's all still so sad............... Sad

Recalling now the old ditty:

"Let a SMILE be your umbrella"?

"Mr. Met" should indeed ne MORE than grateful thst there is no RAIN in sight, for the next several days, at least! Rolling Eyes

I actually attended ball games at both now-defunct hallowed grounds. Two at Yankee Stadium I(b), two at Shea. In both cases, the home teams won their day games, but lost in the night games. I was at the final game of the Mets' season of '81 where they won, then came word that Joe Torre was fired as manager. Then a few years later, I attended a night game there whilst they were playing the Cincinnati Reds after Pete Rose became player/manager ("SIN-see" won that one).

For the "Bombers," I was at "the Stadium" the week before the Mets' game in '81, Reggie hit one of his homers. By the time I attended an '83 night game (which they lost), they already had a color video screen up.

(I already mentioned having once been in "Bah-ston" in July 1988, attending a Red Sox/White Sox nighttime matchup at Fenway Park - the only time in my life I attended a night game where the home team won. Unlike in "Noo Yawk," "Bah-ston's" rapid transit system shuts down after midnight, so coming to the motel where I stayed during my visit I was very much like Cinderella trying to make it back as the clock struck midnight.)

I have a similar saying, a new twist on an old one: If you keep lying down with dogs, eventually you'll end up sleeping with the fishes. This seems to be the Mets' fate of late.

W.B.:

GREAT "Noo Yawk" baseball memories; thanks for sharing! Wink

Mom would sometimes say:

"If you lie down with dogs, you'll get up with fleas." Rolling Eyes

So far as BOTH "Noo Yawk" teams go, in all honesty, there is NOT ONE player who would even be REMOTELY close to being termed an "Iron Man".

But, then again, I think, nowadays, it's pretty evident............. Sad

Well, in the "wild card" series, "doze squeakers" fell to "Bah-ston," and who helped put them in their place? None other than one of their former pitchers, Aroldis Chapman (remember him? the guy who often faltered in the clutch when he was in pinstripes?).

No doubt the swollen heads of rabid "AYF's" have begun to deflate a bit after this.

Ryan Field (Eyewitness News at 11)..........

"......the Yankees are suddenly finding their wild-card clinch in jeopardy....."

"......the 'Boys From Beantown' indeed left their mark up in the Bronx this evening.............."

Weatherman Lee Goldberg was QUITE ecstatic, as he is a DIE-HARD "Bah-ston" fan!! Wink

This MIGHT just be getting interesting............ Rolling Eyes
