Never thought of this until just today........

Strange that PE never operated any trolley buses, unlike LATL.

Would have been interesting to see a trolleybus sporting those classic PE "wings"............ Very Happy

Here's an interesting and diverse photo gallery of LA trolleybuses (last operated in 1963); again, interesting that PE never seemed to be interested in them.........

A short, but interesting, part of the LA transit history.

Cyberider:

Odd, how both "heavy rail" and "light rail" electric transit have returned to LA after several decades, but trolleybuses have never made a comeback.

However, I HAVE read that, some while back, there WERE proposals about bring them back (in some form) but the plans never got beyomd the talking stage........

Indeed; VERY fortunate that this unique bus survived into preservation! Wink

Just imagine the CTA operating several hundred of them! Very Happy

Cyberider:

Indeed they did!

The first group arrived in 1961, along with an order of Fishbowls.

In fact, the CTA favored Flex New Looks over the Fishbowls for a number of years,, not purchasing GMs in large numbers until well into the 1970s...........

I.I.N.M., one of those 1961 Flxies (with a "100" tagged on it) were tried out in "Noo Yawk" on a few FACL lines (#4 Fifth Avenue-Fort Washington, #5 Fifth Avenue-Riverside Drive, and #10 Eighth Avenue-Central Park West). Didn't hurt that the CTA's green and cream scheme was identical to that used on FACL and ST "Jetsons." Unfortunately, FACL was in such bad shape financially at that point, that they ended up NOT taking "the plunge." I've said in the past I could envision them used on "lesser" routes like the #16 Elmhurst Crosstown, and a few Bronx routes. I've put a few pics of that demo bus on this site over the years.

W.B.:

Indeed, it is sad that FACL didn't (couldn't) take the plunge, ordering a group of those buses; had FACL ordered them, it would have been interesting to see how long 'stoa" would have continued to operate then (maybe into the early 1970s, at least)

I can also see the type being used to replace "da Toid Aven-uh" El trains, in 1973............

Trivia.............

In 1963, the first "Dangerfields" (Flex New Looks) were delivered to "El-Ay's" MTA.

These sleek and flashy new buses were dubbed "SilverLiners".........Wink

IMHO..........

The ULTIMATE disrespect shown to a "Dangerfield" was when NJT began to repaint the NJDOT buses into their new colors (which I NEVER liked), back in the early 1980s Razz

That ULTRA-BLAND "Eskimo Pie Disco Dip" ("EPDD") scheme was TOTALLY out of place on those otherwise-handsome buses......... Razz

I STILL like picturing painted as they were, when they first entered service, here in "Joisey".......... Wink
