(SEE PREVIOUS POST)

Further:

I truly believe that there are QUITE a few historic "FA-KO" photos out there, photos that we still have not had the pleasure of viewing (in any format); all the more reason to publish an "IMAGES OF AMERICA" book on the company, from omnibuses to Fishbowls..........

Interesting.....

In the aforementioned book on the CMCCo, there is an interesting photo of Old Look #621, one of the last purchased by CMCCo.

The bus sports a silversiding strip under the windows; I've always wondered why none of "FAK-KO's later Old Looks were not equipped likewise.

Several NHBL Old Looks had them; I always thought these buses looked quite stylish....... Wink

*It should be noted that the last series of Old Looks purchased by PE (2700s/2900s) also sported silver strips under the windows......

Also............

I wonder had CMCCo had remained independent a few years, might they have experimented with a/c, a la #3100?

Just thinkin'.......

Interesting, also, that CMCCo once operated, for a time FORD transits, a type of bus you would not have been seen on the "Fak-Ko" roster.

Ditto WHITE 798s............

Also.............

Take notice also, that, unlike the "See-Es-El", CMCCo obviously had no desire to purchase any postwar ACF-BRILL "C-46s".

But, like "Fakk-Ko", "motor coach" DID purchase some postwar "Pattons"; as was the case with "Fakk-ko", the "Gee-Em's" MORE than dominated the fleet.........

Interesting that FACCO had 25 Mack C50 while CMC had only eight of them and 102 inches wide rather than 96 as FACCO.

And FACCO and NYCO each had one White 788 as a demo.
Then FACCO had six White model 1150 and CMC did t.

The type of side rear view mirror on the drivers window was also an option.

MaBSTOA 15:

After reading the "CHICAGO MOTOR COACH COMPANY" book, I was thinking the the very same thing.

Recall, also, the massive order that CTA placed for the nearly 1,000 propane-powered "Oddballs"; given the fact that (from what I've read) these buses were NOT the most reliable in the CTA fleet (and, also, had quite a few operating issues)

IMHO, I think that it was a wise move on CMCCo's part to steer clear of these buses..........

Jere's another OUTSTANDING Chicago* page; while there are also many excellent streetcar (and trolleybus) photos here, you will also find a number of great vintage "Shik-aga" bus photos, including a RARE view of a postwar "Patton"! Very Happy

Ahhh, for those glorious, long-ago days of REAL buses! Very Happy

*The 1950s color photo looking north from State and Van Buren is AWESOME; the scene is just CHOCK-FULL of buses AND pre- and postwar PCCS!

NO WONDER "Shik-aga" was once such a MECCA for transit fans!

And no doubt, like in "Noo Yawk," "Shik-aga's" current crop of buses are likewise insipid and potentially deadly (as in, batteries catching fire).
