The formidable, hulking "Broadway Battleships" ("Standards"), likewise were indeed not at all leery about getting the job done, when the "white stuff" was a-fallin'..... Wink

https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?6327 (added bonus: a shiny new "Jetson"!) Very Happy

Cyberider:

THAT would NOT surprise me in the slightest; the MTA has a length history of engaging in the "blame game", when things start going downhill........ Razz

"The Isle Of Staten" in da snow........

Just wondering now how the new "R-211s" (aka "Staten Island Rattlers") are going to be able to handle their first "Noo Yawk" winter (something's telling me that not going to be able to handle the "fluffy white stuff", as did their oh-so-reliable, long-lived predecessors)

We shall see.............

W.B.:

Agreed, 100%......the shiny new "Ratllers", I also, feel, are going to "fizzle out" at the sign of the first decent snowfall (can't even put CHAINS on 'em!) Shocked

Also, I foresee quite a bit of "See-Bee-Tee-See" issues, on exposed lines, once "Ol' Man Winter" really sinks his frigid claws into the "Noo Yawk" area, in a few more months........I feel it's going to be a VERY eventful winter, transit-wise........... Rolling Eyes

Further........

The more I thinki about it, I have the feeling that this is going to be a VERY interesting winter for the "Es-Eye-Are", with the new "Staten Island Rattlers" ("R-211s") in charge (any of the veteran "Fordy-Fours" still running?

As the SIR's route is TOTALLY EXPOSED (with the exception of the short tunnel between St. George and Tompkinsville), it would seem that the line is going to have MORE than its share of issues, if we have a colder/snowier winter than normal..........

Hmmmmmmm.....

Was just browsing the "R-211" photo galleries at nycsubway.org; strangely, NO photos of ANY testing under "winter conditions"........indeed, this is going to be a VERY interesting winter, especially over on "The Isle Of Staten"....... Wink

Recalling those long, long ago days when "IRON MEN" and "ARMOR-PLATED TANKS" valiantly fought the snow on the subways and Els (this nostalgic 1960s scene is indeed TIMELESS!) Very Happy

I was impressed by that photo when I first saw it 20 or more years ago. May need to resurrect it to clear the way for all the ground-hugging low-floor buses of today.
