How ironic, that the postwar TWIN COACHES (aka "Oddballs") that helped to replace the streetcars, disappeared roughly about the same time that the last B&QT streetcars did (late 1956)

Certainly, the Old Looks (and MACKS) lasted longer, perhaps not all that surprisingly............

The Twin "Oddballs" didn't even hang around to see the first "Jetsons" introduced onto the streets of Brooklyn in 1959, that's how much true "Dangerfields" of their time they were.

The Brooklyn bus routes were divided amongst different divisions: the "Brooklyn Bus Division," no doubt from old routes that were bus from the beginning, run by the old Brooklyn Bus Corporation; and "BMT Surface Division," a combo of B&QT streetcar, "trackless trolley" and bustituted routes. After the last of the second-named converted to bus service in 1960, that latter entity became the "BMT Bus Division," as based on old transfers.

Just a few years old, and already being scrapped; and, to think, look at how long many "Kramdens" lasted in service.........

Almost resemblant of tin cans by the end, no? Sounds like a forerunner in some respects to today's "BINO's" . . .

W.B.:

They often say, "appearances are deceiving"; IMHO, I believe that also well describes the postwar "Oddball".

To see them in on the streets, they DID appear to be a "hefty"-looking vehicle, but, it would seem that they were not all that "crash worthy".

Sure, even a "Kramden" or a "Patton" could take a pretty rough beating if an accident was severe enough, BUT, without a doubt, they were built of far "sterner stuff" than the postwar "Oddballs"........
