And, speaking of "stubways"........
Recall that the "Eye-En-Dee's Court Street station (today's NYCTM), had planned extensions been built, would have been a "through" station, instead of a "stub" terminal for the "HH" shuttle, which was closed in 1946.
Look at how long it took to take the Dyre Avenue shuttle, and tie it into the "Eye-Are-Tee" mainlines (something like more than 15 years)
It would seem that the biggest postwar extension/expansion would have been the "Eye-En-Dee" running out to the Rockaways, via the old "El-Eye-Double-Are" line:

Regarding the "Q" line.............
From what I have been reading, their are now consists of "R-46" and "R-68/68A "Brighton Belles" on the line, adding some needed rolling stock variety to the line.
This puzzled me, as I HAD thought that the "Cue" was now 100% "See-Bee-Tee-See", and thus prohibiting the use of older, non-NTT equipment on the line.................

Time indeed flies..........
To show you how long ago it has been since I last rode the "Gee", the last train I rode on was an "Arten" ("Thunderbird"), and there was still some incandescent lighting, further accentuating the aura of another era.
As far as the subways themselves, I have not ridden on them since the day Your's Truly retired way backin April, 2004 (then again, that was the last time I was even in "Noo Yawk")
Yep, it's been awhile, and so much has changed.............

"See-Bee-Tee-See" on the "G"............
Given the fact that older, non-NTT equipment is now running on the "G", I am guessing that CBTC is not yet fully operational on this line?
Appreciate info...........

Unless someone knocked some sense into the "Em-Tee-Yay" and told them flat-out, have old-style signalling as a backup. |

W.B.:
Keeping the old block signals operational on ALL lines as backups SHOULD be a NO-BRAINER, BUT, then again, with today's uver-floundering "Em-tee-Yay", common sense seems to have pretty much taken a long sabbatical..........

.....for Your's Truly, it seems a little "exotic" to have the "Brighton Belles" (R-68s) running on the "Gee" line, as I have long since, first and foremost, always associated them with the Brighton line.
Hard to believe that these cars are now nearing their fourth decade in service............

On this day in 1977............
The very last of the formidable "built like a tank" prewar "Eye-En-Dee" cars made their final run on the "Bee-Em-Tee"; last train of these iconic and historic cars ran on the "J" line.
Job WELL DONE, faithful old friends!

Interesting........
The "Fordy-Sixes" (now the oldest cars on the rails), have a longer service record than the veteran "Arnines" they replaced, way back in the 1970s (IMHO, the "Arnines" could have easily made it into the early 1980s, as did the BSS cars did, down in Philly in Philly)...............

*Ironic that, the "Arnines" were tested on BMT rails, and made their final runs on BMT rails, decades later........
