Back in the day, they were ALL interesting operations, each with its own unique flavor and character.
Whoever thought that, back in 1964, when the Canal Street (New Orleans) streetcars were replaced by buses, that the former multi-track trolley "boulevard" (used by buses for many years) would again see classic-style streetcars, when the Canal Street line was brought back from the land of the "Ghosts of Streetcars Past".
Of course, there are only two tracks along Canal Street these days, instead of the multi-track ROW utilized many decades ago....but, at least, the streetcars are BACK!

Not belong to any enthusiast's "clubs" or organizations, the only way of finding out what was going on in the transit world was via hobbyists magazines and, of course, the long-defunct "BUS WORLD".
Usually, by the time I "got word" of something interesting, the time had already passed.

The only international "bus tunnel" in North America...........
In 1930, a vehicular tunnel was built under the Detroit River connecting Detroit with Windsor, Ontario.
The "DETROIT & CANADA TUNNEL CORPORATION" operated the tunnel and the bus service through it.
The original buses were 30 TWIN COACH Model 40s.
The buses operated on 10-minute headways.
Except for a short run over city streets in Detroit, the service was entirely on company property.
In later years, a fleet of TWIN COACH Model 34-Ss were purchased for the international tunnel run............

Indeed!
You would be surprised how many transit enthusiasts have yet to discover just how rich and diverse bus/electric rail operations once were.
Over the course of many years, I've read just about anything I could get my hands on, regarding mass transit in years past, regardless of where in the world it was located.
Look at the "TUNNEL BUS" operation between Detroit and Canada; I'll wager that a number of enthusiasts have no idea that this operastion even existed!
That is one of the greatest things about our hobby......there is ALWAYS something NEW to learn!

I've long been a serious student of London Transport history, in all of its many modes.
At one time, many decades ago, certain classes of "GENERAL" and "LONDON TRANSPORT" double-deckers had to have their upper decks specially contoured to fit the tight, tubular contours of the Blackwall Tunnel under the Thames.

The "NS" class of double-decker was another class of bus where modification of the upper decks was carried out, for operation through the Blackwall Tunnel (scroll down page for info on the "tunnel buses").........
