I was wondering, could Orion eventually offer Mercedes-Benz engines on their buses? As we should all know, Orion is owned by Daimler AG.
Thomas Built Buses, another Daimler AG subsidiary, offers Mercedes engines on their school buses. Some late model Thomas/Dennis SLF200s also featured Mercedes engines.
While nowadays Cummins is the dominant player in transit bus engines in North America, I was wondering whether or not an Orion with a Mercedes engine would succeed. Do "Buy America" laws come into play here? |

You will likely see the MBE900 or a revised Detroit (also owned by Daimler). Beginning in 2010, Daimler has noted they will no longer sell engines out of the corporation, so the only way to get MB or DD engines will be in a Daimler product (Orion, Setra, MB Bus, Thomas, Freightliner, Western Star). |
