This debate only goes on because there is a lot that isn't known and it is a fact that there is no real effort to make improvements or you would see Diesel beat all comers easily.
Diesel engines are already available for cars that beat the prius in fuel economy and emissions. This is without any real effort on any manufacturer's part. Just as there was no effort to beat the Detroit Diesel from the beginning, I can easily say that there is not a viable company working to increase efficiency. Yeah you can see some token changes but nothing substantial.
All I see are wasted efforts in offering us more electric or some kind of propane, CNG, or methane or some other strange ideas just to give the notion that we have all given up on the best answer and that is the Diesel engine.
Granted that I see room for improvement in the prius by using a really fuel efficient engine and not some regular production engine but it's gains would not meet the potential that the Diesel engine has.
One real fact that is never mentioned is that you lose something when you convert say a liquid fuel to electricity as in the hybrid car. This is a realty. NO NET GAIN, of any kind. If you think you are gaining something it is because you are overlooking the facts.
think..............ENTROPY.
What some are hoping for being normal is closer to "Perpetual Motion" or some such a thing and we all know how this idea is working.
trying to get something out of nothing
What most are working at are called alternative fuels and alternative ideas but these days they are starting from scratch by throwing away the lessons learned from the past.
Yes many of these so-called new ideas are actually old.
Steam, Electric, Gas, etc...
It is nice to hope and wish but folks, LET's GET REAL. |
