Never thought I'd ever be nostalgic for the 70's.......man, if we could only again revel in such classic scenes as these.......

This frigid scene depicting a snowbound ACF being rescued on a long-ago winter's day reminds us that, before you can say "Jack Frost", "Ol' Man Winter" will be back in town once again.......
A rare, old-time view, indeed!

Great shot!
I used to go to that Automat with Reading conductor Bob Linden. More fond memories.... |
Glad the photo brought back some good memories!
I well recall the old Manhattan Automats as a kid, back in the 60's......sure beats the same-old/same-old fast joints of today!
I lasted visited Philly back in 1982; two weekend visits.
Did not get to ride any buses, trolley coaches, or PCC's, but was able to get to ride the old Bullet and Strafford cars on the old P&W, as well as the classic Broad Street Subway cars (the Art Deco "Flash Gordon" Bridge cars were my faves!) and "Almond Joy" Market-Frankford El cars!
Was great to really experience living transport history!
Where has 30 years gone..........

Thirty years? You can still experience 48 year old (and counting!) R-32 Budd-built subway cars on the 'A' train here in The City....
with a minimum of maintenance these well-built cars can live on easily becoming the longest lived cars in subway history. |

When they were still in service, I commuted to and from lower Manhattan on such vintage and classic subway equipment as the R10/R12/R14/R15......and, while they were being used on the "C", after the fabled R-10's, the R-30's.
After that, I would ride to and from work the "Brightliners" on the "C", and the "Redbirds" on the IRT 7th Avenue line, until they were retired.
Railfan windows ALWAYS a nice plus!
I retired nearly ten years ago, and no longer travel, but, hey, I've got some GREAT old memories!
Hey!
Weren't we discussing Philadelphia BUSES?
Philly was indeed a true paradise for transit buffs.......you had buses, trolley coaches, streetcars, and rapid transit......a living museum of vintage equipment from a long-ago era, still to be savored!
I've always enjoyed looking at vintage Philly bus pictures, especially the Old Looks and trolley coaches.......some really handsomne vehicles ran those streets, back in the day!
