When this photo was taken in downtown Brooklyn, back in in 1972, time was quickly running out for the remaining "Shermans" in the "Em-Tee-Ay's" fleet.
Here, in an almost symbolic scene, we have soon-to-be-retired "Sherman" #7191, with its successor, a batwing Fishbowl,in close pursuit.
Yes, it was indeed the fading twilight of Old Looks........

Same location*, same years as the previous photo, except, instead of a veteran "Sherman", we see a 5000-series "Dangerfield" working the "46"......

Regarding the Orange and Black Mack suburban buses.. since they acquired six used Mack model C-50-DT from Miami Transit, O&B removed the rear door.
Were these six buses used as “suburbans”? and Did they keep the “S” shape seats or replaced them with high back suburban seats?
Remember, these C-50-DT were originally for the BoT but were diverted by Mack to Miami when Miami lost buses in a massive fire. The sliding standee and rear windows and the “S” shape seats were a BoT trademark.

MaBSTOA 15:
It was thanks to you that I found out that some of the O&B Macks were rebuilt, ex-Miami buses.
I have photos of the oldest of the postwar O&B Macks; these buses (I believe these were C-45's; they had standee windows and transit-type seating)
The newest of the company's MACK buses had the taller windows and high-backed seats (GREYHOUND's San Francisco Bay Area commuter operations rostered a number of these, purchased about 1957)......

Here's a rare preserved example of one of GREYHOUND's Bay-Area MACKS (this model had standee windows, but GREYHOUND also operated MACKS with the taller, suburban-type windows).............

It was the Fishbowl at left that tolled the bell for the "Sherman" at right. The latter of which were all gone by the time the 'Tee-Yay', in early '73, got the last Fishbowls ever made for them (both the regular service T6H-5309A and express T6H-5310A). But they did have a longer run, it seems, than the ex-FACL and Surface "Shermans" with the front sign boxes on top (which didn't seem to last past 1970 and whose last years of service were apparently confined to 'da Bronx') - and when the last of MaBSTOA's set of those custom Fishbowls arrived (in summer '73, and largely put in service on the Bx55 after the last of the Third Avenue el shut down), that spelled the end for the first-gen Fishbowls originally in service to FACL and Surface (and also likewise concentrated in 'da Bronx' in its last years).

This picture from January, 1971, is the newest (most recent) photo at nycsubway.org which shows one of MABSTOA's distinctive "front sign sticking out" Old Looks (#2666) still in service (photo was snapped at Broadway & Park Place).......

Right! I'd forgotten about that - a few of those were Xferred to 'Tee-Yay' territory in Brooklyn to serve out their years through about '72. But still . . .

It seems as though, by 1969/1970 (going by the photos at nycsubway.org) that virtually all of the remaining "Shermans" in Brooklyn were the 7000's.
However, this photo, from 1969, shows "Sherman" #9117 (note sliding windows, a la "Bingham" MACK), running on the "B-23".
This bus was also, as you know, part of the last order of "Shermans" purchased by the "Tee-Yay"............

Also, had to post this interesting photo here.
This one (from 1972, Broadway & Vesey) has Fishbowl #6193 sporting a taped "10X" card in the windshield, with the roller curtain set for the same route..........

MabSTOA 15:
Now THAT is an INTERESTING bus!!
When I think of buses that had sliding windows, my mind instantly calls up the "Bingham" MACKS; I often wonder why the "Tee-Yay"opted for sliding windows on their last batch of Old Looks? (the 9000-series 5106's)
Certainly, we had nothing like this in "Noo Joisey"......
