The "Flushing Bombers" - or is that the "Flushed Bombers"? (I haven't heard too many using a play on the name of that area of Queens where, in one stadium or another, the Mets have played - or, in more recent years, "played" - since 1964.) |

BTW:
The "Bombers" finally snapped their multiple-game winning streak earlier (7-0); not even on the scoreboard (they'll be playing a home game of Friday)............

Well....it was BOUND to happen SOME day.....(!!)
The Mets FINALLY actually WON a game, the FIRST game of the new season where they ACTUALLY were VICTORIOUS!  (they split a double-header)
It was QUITE entertaining, to say the least, to hear the obvious tones of both AMAZEMENT and, almost SHOCK, when the various sports anchors and news reporters were relaying the long-awaited news to legions of cringing Mets fans, expecting ANOTHER loss!
Well, now let's see if this is a sign of happier days for the Amazins', or was this just a quirky "fluke".......the "Bombers":, meanwhile, have lost only ONE game so far this season (home opener at the Yankee Stadium's "stand-in" today)
Time alone will tell........

Just heard that the "Bombers" lost their home opener today......perhaps they wanted to keep the Mets company, regarding opening day losses?
UPDATE:
BELIEVE IT OR NOT!!!!
The Mets just WON their SECOND STRAIGHT game!!!!!!!
Something is telling me that the 2024 "Noo Yawk" baseball season is NOT going to be a DULL one....I feel that there's going to be a LOT of UPS and DOWNS, and TWISTS and TURNS, (not to mention the victories and defeats) before the season wraps up in the fall....... |

When they "Bombers" lost their game yesterday, it was also the FIRST time in 57 years since they lost a hope opener.
Let's see how the "Bombers" and the "Amazins' " do later today........

In talking about buses (and rapid transit) serving the Stadiums in "Noo Yawk", we should also recall the days when hockey fans (like the legendary Stan Fischler........ this iconic gentleman just recently turned 92!) rode the subways (and the buses) to the old Madison Square Garden for the hockey games.
And, of course, the basketball games and Ringling Brothers circuses.
Depending on where you were originating from, hockey fans heading to the old "Garden" (8th Avenue, between 49th & 50th) were only steps away from the various subway lines.
What bus lines were the nearest?
I know that once the "new and improved" MSG opened as part of the "new and improved" Penn Station, LIRR fans were virtually in the basement of the new sports arena (NJ fans arriving on the "Tubes" had but a short walk to the new facility.............

Natch', on the subways, the AA, CC and E trains were direct; those who wanted to come and go via a longer distance had to use the 50th Street station of the "Eye-Are-Tee."
Now for buses. On Eighth Avenue, up to 1954 NYCO's #10 Eighth Avenue-Central Park West line traveled along same in both directions; after 1954 the S/B was rerouted in that area along Broadway. Surface's M-104 Broadway line was one block east, and a little farther from that was NYCO's #8 Seventh Avenue line (discontinued in 1954 after the one-way conversions of Eighth Avenue and of Seventh Avenue south of Times Square - the remainder of Seventh would be converted one-way S/B all the way in 1957). If you came to MSG III from one block west, you would have gotten off a S/B #11 bus (NYCO) on Ninth Avenue. Amazing that the (pre-1953) "Bee O'Tee's" #3 49th-50th Street Crosstown ran on each end of "the Garden" - people coming westbound from 49th Street and eastbound from 50th. |

As always, greatly appreciate the historical information. 
Though we never went in, Mom and I passed by the old "Garden" a number of times when Your's Truly was much, much younger (we DID, howver, if we were passing by, make a stop at Nedick's, the BEST franks and BEST orange drink in the East?)
I've always found Stan Fischler's accounts of hockey games at the old "Garden" to be quite interesting and exciting; today's "new and improved" MSG is only yet another modern arena.
When there were events being held at the old "Garden", rest assured most folks arrived by either the subways or the buses......
