The magnificent and historic Georgetown Car Barn:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgetown_Car_Barn
Note that this magnificent facility once utilized an elevator for streetcars; TARS multi-level Yonkers barn also was furnished with an elevator for the cars.
Also, the old 56th St. depot in Manhattan.......

Along with horsecars and electric streetcars, cable cars also once operated in Washington; here is another facet of historic rail transportation in the Capital ("cable trains" once clattered past the White House!)
This is an excellent historical page that also includes the cable system that once operated in Baltimore......

In speaking of electric traction in DC and its surrounding areas, we have to at least give a nod towards the big, interurban-ish, hard-working, rugged, owl-eyed MU's that once called at Union Station.......

Other than New York (Manhattan) Washington DC was the only other city to operate open cars on conduit lines.
NEW YORK RAILWAYS operated open cars in Manhattan on conduit lines until the mid-1930's.......

Here's a handsome portrait of CAPITAL TRACTION's #101.
This car was similar to a number of early PSNJ cars; though they were double-ended, they only were equipped with a single trolley pole, which was reversed by the conductor at the end of the line.
Also, note the old-style "basket fenders"........

Here's a handsome deck roof car (Capital Traction) showing off a more "modern" appearance than its earlier brothers; this car (IMHO) had a "Chicago" look to it, and would not at all looked out of place on any of the CSL lines of that era......

CAPITAL TRACTION's #619 here presents a classic and timeless pose.
Note how, over the front platform, a rollsign is in place, while an old-fashioned route board is used on the side.
On PSNJ's deck roof cars, wooden sign boards were used at the front and sides of the clerestory, though small roller sign boxes were located in the right front windshield, as well as the first side window, just to the rear of the doors.
The signboards on PS's deck roof cars were also much larger than the type seen here.......
