Wow! Thanks for offering that link. I will never get to see those cities in person, but these maps and YouTube's search engine will help me "ride" the lines.

In childhood, the 1940's, Dad explained that there were no streetcars in Paris. The complete conversion was part of the government's promotion of the automobile, tire, and truck industry. Later, I learned that St.-Etienne survived. Now there are 17 more systems, some with exotic forms of power delivery. I did get to ride a bit of T2 from La Defense towards a correspondence with RER C at Issy Val de Seine. I knew I was traveling outside the city zone, and it was the devil to be certain I had the proper ticket.

I just checked a recent map. Yes, one can use a regular metro ticket on Ligne 1 to reach La Defense, but if you choose the parallel RER A, you need a ticket valid in the next zone. |
