All:
Who else besides yours truly recalls the "Highway Products" Twin Coach, produced from 1969 through 1975?
Approximately 900 of these little buses, largely forgotten by many in the hobby today, were built.
The first buses were 25-passenger models, with Chrysler V-8 engines and automatic transmissions; these were designated Model TC-25.
The Detroit Model 453 diesel engine was used on later models.
Models included the TC-25, TC-31, and TC-31B.
Some of the operators included:
PERT DIAL-A-BUS (Greece, NY)
BATTLE CREEK COACH COMPANY TRANSIT DISTRICT
DIAL-A-RIDE (Haddonfield, NJ)
GARDEN STATE COACHWAYS
SANTA CLARA COUNTY
MUSKEGON TRANSIT AUTHORITY
The only ones I can recall ever seeing were those operating in and around Orange, NJ, around 1973 or thereabouts (sure hope one or two "Highway Products" buses were saved)
I never got a chance to ride even or even snap a photo or two; I also have no idea what outfit was operating them.
I have two vintage battery operated tin toy buses that were clearly patterned after the "Highway Products" units (both have lights and opening doors)
Man, it's all so long ago now.........

Just how "forgotten" these little buses were/are:
In "THE BUS WORLD OF ENCYCLOPEDIA OF BUSES" (Ed Stauss, 1988) there are no photos at all of these buses, even though older builders and bus types are discussed at length........

They kind of remind me of the Orion/MCI/TMC "Citycruiser" that MCI marketed in the early '80's.... |

Agreed!
The first prototype ORION, built in 1976, was a thirty foot, two door transit model (DUH!)
As I am sure you already know, GREYHOUND's TRANSPORTATION MANUFACTURING CORPORATION obtained the license to produce the 30-foot ORION (which, of course, was dubbed the "Citycruiser")
Montgomery county (Maryland) was by far the largest user, operating 155 of the buses.
After 748 units were built, GREYHOUND discontinued the "Citycruiser" in 1982.....

To the list of TC-25 operators, we also have TANK -- the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky. I think the total TC-25 fleet was four. I was assigned there in 1978-79, and oversaw the conversion of two of them into lift-equipped buses for the "RAMP", Regional Area Mobility Program". Early response to 504 (now ADA).
Later, as General Manager, I had a few TMC Citicruisers in Lima OH. Not a bad bus as I recall.
