The revolutionary exterior design elements introduced on GM's next generation of transits in 1959 (known as New Looks) did not lend themselves to the imaginative, colorful and sometimes ornate liveries of their predecessors which is perhaps why so many different operators had New Look buses that looked alike.
GM did offer basic factory color combination options as can be seen in the brochure below and while some operators did mix and match and even develop their own hues there really wasn't much room for individuality!
Today's 'white boxes' are even worse!

When GM and Grummann rolled out their ADBs in the mid 70's, transit agencies were able to expand their canvases somewhat. |
