The nine new Gillig hybrid buses purchased by the Central New York Regional Transportation Authority (Centro) have finally entered service during the past week. These buses (# 2700-2708) arrived earlier in the spring and were rolled out for the press back on March 22nd but were curiously missing from the streets in the weeks since then.
Last Friday, I spotted 2706 heading inbound on West Genesee St. on the 136 route at 9:00 p.m. and also saw 2704 on my way to work Monday morning. Today, I took a drive into downtown Syracuse on my lunch hour and spotted four of the hybrids - 2700, 2705, 2707 and 2708. I took a bunch of photos and will get these developed ASAP , so I'll post a few images as soon as I can. I may also try to get out this weekend and ride a few buses and catch a ride on one of the Gilligs for a more in-depth report.

Good to see that. Out here in Albany, CDTA's hybrids are on property and are soon to enter service (it's a cemented start date of June). That leaves Rochester as the last major upstate city whose Gillig hybrids aren't around yet.
Can't wait to see the pictures!! |
