I doubt that's a White. The window looks like it has the same dimensional shape as the other Twins. BTW, very nice rear view shots of the Twins - something that you don't see often.

Yes, I would agree.
I would like to see a rear view of a St. Louis trolley-coach....IIRC they had an unusual pair of narrow "mailbox" rear windows.....

"Ask and ye shall recieve!" Very Happy

That's what I was hoping to see....thanks so much for that shot and the next one. It really brings me back. I remember the rear especially when the driver had to fuss with the poles when they came off the wires...

The details on that coach are amazing.....the multiple louvres I suppose were for some sort of ventilation for either the passengers or perhaps electrical equipment. The railcar type "anti-climber" bumpers. Truly a rear end that could not be mistaken for anything else....

A classic Brooklyn "Old Look" scene from 1969.

(one of several nicknames I have for the Old Look is a "Jackie Gleason Bus".....geeee......I wonder why?) Rolling Eyes

Look closely in the background; you can just make out the tail end of a Flex New look making a turn, and also, one of the classic TA bus stop signs (I sure treasure the one I've had for nearly 25 years!) Very Happy

More MACK nostalgia.....

What strikes me odd about this bus is the unusual push out doors at the rear. It's not very often that you see post-war Macks with this feature. I'm wondering if these were ordered that way or just a retrofit at the garage.

Based on what I read, STS ordered 335 C-45-DT Macks in two orders numbered 1600-1810 and 1900-2024 and one last order of 15 C-47-DT Macks 2025-2039. Was this one renumbered as 3001?

Frankie

frankie,

No - fleet # 3001 - a 1958 Mack Model C-49-DT and one of ten likenesses numbered between 3000 and 3009 were the first (and last) Macks ever ordered by the newly formed Surface Transit, Inc. and came from the factory in a post 'STS' livery of cream over bright green - all of the GM 5106's purchased for Fifth Avenue Coach Lines and Surface Transit from 1956 forward also came in the new scheme.

Regards,

Mr. 'L'

NEW YORK OMNIBUS 2629,

The two interesting buses pictured (912 and 969) in city garb were 1939 Mack model 'Improved' CT-3G's (the improvement being the angled windshields) and were originally part of a seventy-five bus order numbered 900 to 974 for the Brooklyn Bus Corporation of Brooklyn, New York.

Brooklyn had wanted to put their best foot forward for the 39/40 New York World's Fair and traded in their fifty 1931 Mack BT's for these CT's which came in a special livery said to be a variation of their traditional red and ivory scheme and featured the Trylon and Perisphere trademark of the expo set between their headlamps.

Of note is the fact that the original dual blade horizontal sweep windshield wipers, as seen on # 912, were found to be inefficient for angled glass and were changed to the more modern arc sweep type as seen on # 969.

Mr. "L":

Once again, you leave me flabbergasted! Shocked

How in the world were you able to glean such a fantasamagorical mental storehouse of historic bus trivia? Shocked

Was your Mom's maiden name "Rolodex" or "Britannica"? Rolling Eyes

Seriously, my friend, many here (including myself) certainly hold you (and your vast knowledge) in VERY high esteem! Very Happy

Thanks once again.....

The "Jurrasic Era" for buses was still in full swing when these timeless images were snapped in Manhattan, showing lunbering dinosaurs still alive and breathing......

"OLD HOUND FOUND"?

This dreary 1957 view shows a former BMT "BLUEBIRD" unit being scrapped (sad none of these handsome trains were saved).

Look closely on the right, on the other side of the fence.

Looks like (if I am correct) an old GREYHOUND Yellow......
