In Frank Rowsome Jr's long out of print "TROLLEY CAR TREASURY", in the chapter "THE ANIMAL RAILWAY", there is an illustration from 1872, showing a large group of men hauling a New York horsecar, during the "Great Epizootic".

The car is lettered:

Further......

After FACCo motorized in 1907/1908, they, of course, now had to employ mechanics, which, of course, were not needed for omnibus operations.

I also wonder if the omnibus "drivers" were then trained to drive the new motor buses, or if the company instead "outsourced", and hired new men to operate the new motorized buses.

Also, the care, feeding, and grooming of a large number of horses had to represent a substantial cash outlay, during the omnibus era.........

Omnibuses in "Noo Yawk" even inspired toys; I recall, several decates ago, seeing a really nice-looking tin/metal toy omnibus on display at the Museum Of The City of New York.

Interestingly, most folks think STREETCARS came before BUSES, but, in truth, it was the BUS (albeit horse-drawn) that arrived on the scene "foist", prior to ANY sort of "streetcar".

DE CAMP, interestingly enough, had its ancient roots in omnibuses/'stages", operating from The Oranges to Newark...........
