Good stuff, all! With the exception of Red & Tan, most of the carriers up in Joisey seemed to do no more work on their buses than was absolutely necessary to keep them moving under their own power!

There are several examples of the "ball peen hammer" body work on some of those Boulevard old looks!

It doesn't appear that soap and water was ever used on most of the buses in the images, either. Structural dirt?

R&T's No. 68 in 1981, seen sporting the "new look", followed by a more traditionally-attired bretheren.

Note that No. 68 is signed for the #5 (PABT-JSQ, via Kennedy Boulevard); this was a North Hudson Boulevard Route for many, many years, and was one of the routes that ran past our old Union City apartment building.

I particularly remember these coaches holding down runs on the old "MARION LOCAL" and the "2 SECAUCUS", which both started at JSQ........

Old Look No.39 (BERGEN AVENUE IBOA) enjoying a well-deserved snooze at the old, now-demolished BA garage, back in the 70's.

While a number of IBOA Old Looks were retired with the arrival of the DOT-purchased Flex New Looks in 1976, some were retained (especially for rush hour service) and kept on soldiering on into the 80's, when the Grumman/Metro era came to town.

These old veterans just kept on sluggin' along.......

Lincoln Tunnel Helix (NJ side), 1981.

Not only has MANHATTAN LINES been gone for some 30-odd years now, likewise relegated to history is RED STAR; two of their rigs are seen on the outbound side of the helix.

Note the big bad 'Hound bringing up the rear.....

THANK YOU, sir, for sharing this fine photo of one of my old childhood friends, NHBL's B-134!

I took a photo of the same bus, back in 1975, at the old "BLUE & WHITE" lot on Tonnelle Avenue (North Bergen), while some repair work was being done.

The #3 on the roller curtain is a puzzle to me, I must admit, despite the fact I knew these buses QUITE intimatley growing up!

As I've noted many times earlier, the routes I knew best were as follows:

#1 NORTH BOULEVARD LOCAL/JSQ-NUNGESSERS

#5 NEW YORK/JSQ-PABT

#2 (summer only)/JSQ-PALISADES AMUSEMENT PARK (this seasonal line was simply an extension of the #1 LOCAL, operating past the #1's terminus at NUNGESSERS, and then heading on to the Park; this added only about 10 minutes to the normal #1 run).

All three of these routes ran right by our old Union City apartment building, where I lived until I was 14.

There was another NHBL line which was "off the beaten path" for yours truly back then, the #4, which operated north from Nungessers (where it connected with the #1).

I am also remembering NHBL's close ties with RED & TAN; often, you'd see buses from both companies at various locations, being serviced together.

Into the 1980's, I remember RED & TAN's #2, which operated from JSQ to Secaucus.

I can remember Old Looks being used on this line until about 1985 or thereabouts.

Sure wish I could travel back in time, and see my old rubber-tired friends again!
