Yes, I totally agree.

I've found quite a few photos (many in color) of Toluca Yard online; must have have been QUITE a show, watching the "Red Car" trains pulling in and out of the yard during rush hours!

The adjacent substation REALLY had to have been CRANKIN', during those peak hours!

The Glendale-Burbank line carried pretty good traffic. In the days of the 550-class cars, through 1936, they had 5-car trains at rush hour. Then, PE wanted to "bustify" the line but they got so much complaint that they brought in some larger wooden cars, the 800's and 950's, since they had retired the 550's. These were used until the PCC's arrived in 1940, with the 950's continuing to help out. Those five-car trains of 550's were most impressive looking. Don't know if any of them are online. They were originally published in those old Ira Swett books I mentioned.

You just reminded me of an early 1940s "Three Stooges" short, where they play icemen who "crash" a society party.

Looking down the long, long flights of stairs to the street (the same steps used in the classic Stanley & Ollie short, "The Music Box") there are a couple of QUICK glimpses of PE PCC trains scuttling back and forth!

I do not have to tell you that many Mack Sennett (and Hal Roach comedies) featured glimpses of LARY cars; in the circa-1936 "Three Stooges" short, "False Alarms", there are several quick scenes with "Yellow Cars"!

The 1949 Red Skelton comedy, "The Yellow Cab Man" featured some glimpses of "Red Cars"..........

Very familiar with the Three Stooges, a favorite since childhood. Yep, the LARy car running over the fire hoses in False Alarms. Will have to watch more closely for the PCC's in the Iceman episode. I must have been so busy laughing at the rest of the episode that I didn't notice them.

Can't forget the classic "Keystone Kops" silent comedies of the 1920s, which also often featured LA streetcars! (NICE PHOTO!)

LARy trivia:

In the 1930 (Hal Roach) Laurel & Hardy short, "HOG WILD", the LARY trolley line featured near the (crashing!) climax (involving two LARY cars) of the film was the "U" line, running on University Avenue.............
