OUTSTANDING collection of historic "Shik-aga" bus photos (Old Looks, Fishbowls, "Oddballs", WHITES, BRILLS, etc; also rapid transit, streetcars, and trolleybuses!)

Just check out the SHEER DIVERSITY that once ruled the streets (dang, even put the "Tee-Yay" to shame!) Wink

Yeah, we never had so much as a single "Brill-boa," whether a subway car or bus, in "Noo Yawk."

W.B.:

Indeed a bit strange that there were NO Brill-built subway cars in "Noo Yawk", nor did the "Bee-oh-Tee" ever purchase "Brill-boa' buses (recall, though, there WERE privately operated WHITES in Queens and on "The Isle of Staten", and a small number of "Brill-boas" in Queens)

"Soiface" DID roster SOME "Oddballs" (postwar TWINS), along with those operated by the "Tee-Yay" until about 1955.

Did you notice, also, the colorful "See-Tee-Yay" affiliate buses, recalling the days of old "indies" in Queens?

Strange, though, that the only Old Looks rostered by the "See-Tee-Yay" were those which were originally in the CMCCo fleet (TDH-5502s)

These buses were, at the time they were entering service with CMCCo, the largest buses built by "Gee-Em"....................

W.B.:

Here is another incredible collection of vintage bus/trolleybus/streetcar/rapid transit photos, not only from "Skik-aga", but also, from a number of other cities as well

(make sure you check out that Fishbowl railbus!) Wink

Truly boggles the mind at just how fascinating and diverse mass transit operations once were (NO WONDER the "shutterbugs" were always busy, back in the "olden days"!!) Very Happy

Here is another interesting collection of historic "Shik-aga" bus photos; note the one photo of a "Queen Mary" (a loooooong way indeed from our own Fifth "Aven-oo"!) Wink

Prewar and postwar coaches are represented here; again, note the diversity that too many took for granted, back in the day............

Here we have the restored "L" cars and buses in CTA's "Heritage Fleet" (note the "Dangerfield" and "Dangerfield Wannabe", #8499)

Second from the top is CTA's historic "Dangerfield Wannabe" #8499.
(imagine FACCo or the "Tee-Yay" operating a fleet of these distinctive-looking buses!)

Green and cream seemed to be "the thing" in terms of bus paint schemes in that period, no? CMCCo, remember, was owned by the same firm (Omnibus) that also ran FACCo and NYCO, and they were "all in the family" on that - and the "See-Tee-Yay" seemed to pick that green/cream scheme up for years (as well, apparently, as for their "L" cars).

Something tells me that if FACL and ST took the plunge on that "Dangerfield" wannabe, they would have put them, for example, on FACCo's Queens routes (15 and 16) and "Soiface's" Bronx routes, respectively.

W,B.:

Agreed; that green/cream combination seemed to be quite popular with a number of operators, back then (in "Joisey", Jersey City's LAFAYETTE & GREENVILLE also used these colors on its buses)

I'm also with you on the "Dangerfield Wannabees" (had FACCo or "Soiface" ever rostered them) would have put them on the routes you suggested.

To be honest, I have little trouble picturing them running for the "Tee-Yay", over on the "Isle of Staten"......... Wink
