In this topic, I feel it is also most important to familiarize ourselves with San Francisco's rich, fascinating history, its geography, its earliest days, its many historic landmarks...........

History repeating itself............
In the book "SAN FRANCISCO'S CABLE CARS" (Jansen) there are a number of pictures showing political cartoons from the 1940s and 1950s, reflecting the public's powerful love for the cable cars, when local (and idiotic!) political factions wanted to scrap them in favor of modern buses.
One shows a cable car looking out from behind prisoner bars, as a newsboy holds up an extra, with the headlines:
"CITY TO BAIL OUT CABLE CARS!", with a crowd of happy San Franciscans rejoicing in the background.
A particularly charming political cartoon from the late 1940s shows a smiling cable car surrounded by admirers:
"I never knew I had so many friends!"
Another shows a smiling gentleman, cuddling a little (and smiling!) cable car, while, with his foot, kicking a bus into the Bay!
Now........let's see what transpires today, with the cable cars now facing uncertain times.....let's hope that same sentiment rings true today!

We can only hope that SF's current "Woke" populace thinks the same as they did back then. |
