Wonder what the "quality" of today's "L" rails is, compared to what once not only stood the heavy pounding of interurban trains, (and the brutal Chicago summers) but the non-stop "L" traffic as well...............

But then, I realize that the "44s"("ME-2s") were roughly only about 14 years old, when the "Belles" began to enter service on the subways......

Reports I've read have several ACTIVE sets of "44s"/"ME-2s"in "soivice" on the SIRT, even though the cars were supposedly ALL retired from revenue "soivice".

Seems these hard-working, faithful old workhorse cans can sTILLrespond to the "call to duty"........ Wink
