After replacing the old McAdoo-era signals with "Star Wars " tecnology......well, let's just say I saw this coming........."if itain' broke, DON'T fix it!"

Even Stevie Wonder, it is said, could see what would happen if such "Star Wars" type technology replaced the ol' "tried-and-true" . . . |

W.B.:
You said it it!
As Yours Truly commuted on "the tubes" and the subways for nearly 25 years, je can tell you I cannot recall the frequency level of signal issues on PATH as I see plaguing the system today.
Of course, back in those days, for the most part, McAdoo-era signals still pretty much ruled...........alas, that was a loooong time ago.....

.................I thinkit is pretty much a given that, with several weekends worth of work on switch replacement on several subway lines, that more than a few block signals were replaced with Star Wars-eque "See-Bee-Tee-See".
Once again, if, heaven forbid the CBTC system has a "meltdown"( or is hacked unto) with NO BACKUP whatsoever, ut will be a MAJOR disaster, one that will, quite literally, bring the city to a grinding halt.......

......just as well RFWs are now extinct, with more and more of the old block signals being replaced by CBTC, there wouldn't be anything to view, anyway......how much we all took for granted..........

.....1010 WINS reporter Mac Rosenberg did a report on the re-opening of the AMTRAK/LIRR tube under the East River, closed for extensive repairs since last year,
All new "thoud rail", signalling, rails, etc, have been installed.
The other tube will go OOS for renovation and repairin the fall.
Also "hoid" briefly from"Mr.Jan-OH!" and an AMTRAL 'muckety-muck".....

| Now comes word that PATH will no longer accept MetroCards as payment after Sept. 1, and that their "SmartLink" cards will be replaced by something called "TAPP" - Total Access PATH Payment. Goes without saying they won't take OMNY cards. |

......NJT's North Jersey Coast line is suspended between New York and Long Branch, due to flooding.
It's gonna be CHAOS at the "Port" this evening, with so many stranded NJCL commuters scrambling for buses to take them home.....

Eternal optimism.......
Heard on 1010 WINS yesterday that "En-Jay-Tee" lost lost $4 million bucks on the special rail services to the recent US OPEN; seems that they overstimated the number of riders they would carry, which fell far short of expectations.....

Earlier today, there were MAJOR service disruptions on the A, B, C, and D lines.
Cracks were found in the roadbed of the downtown track, between 125th and 59th Streets.
Just another fun-filled day on the subways...........

Was it by chance an "old" section, or one of the newer sections that had the entire roadbed rebuilt? |

Historical note.........
On this date in 1910, the H&M opened a new station at Grove-Henserson (Jersey City), and at the ERIE's waterfront Pavonia Avenue terminal.
Through the 1960s, certain H&M/PATH trains ran between G-H and Hudson Terminal, short-turning without running through to/from JSQ.
The ERIE's platforms each were furnished with two cast iron IRT-style kiosks, allowing rail passengers to detrain and enter the H&M station, without having to go through the main terminal......
