W.B.:
CIRCLE LINE PIER:
Foot of W. 43rd Street, Pier 83 (CIrcle 6-3200)
DAY LINE PIER:
PIER 81, foot of W. 41st Street (BRyant 9-5151)
*(Recall, also, through the 1964 season, the DAY LINE also called at the 125th Street pier)

Also............
Recall that, by 1964, there was only ONE ship in the "DAY LINE" fleet, the venerable sidewheeler "ALEXANDER HAMILTON"; the "PETER STUYVESANT had been retired and sold a few years earlier........

Also..........
Prior to its being destroyed by fire in 1962, the abandoned NYCRR West Shore ferry terminal (closed 1959) at the foot of W. 42nd Street had one of its idle slips used to dock CIRCLE LINE craft between runs.......

Was that, by chance, the missing Pier 82? |

W.B.:
Not sure here, but could very well be.
If the former NYCRR terminal HAD been the missing Pier 62, perhaps it was "de-classified" when ferry service to Weehawken was abandoned, or, stricken from documentation after the destructive fire in 1962...........

According to an old Rand McNally book, Pier 82 WAS the Weehawken terminal operated (as of the publication of that book) by the West Shore Railroad. That was what was wiped out after the 1962 fire, then . . . |

Glad we have this little mystery "confoimed"!
It is also interesting to note that the crossing from Weehawken to W. 42nd Street was in operation at all times, whereas the route to Cortlandt Street operated only during weekday rush hours.
Interestingly, by the time service ended in 1959, the NYCRR boats had moved next door to the abandoned PRR Cortlandt Street slips, which had been OOS since 1949.
Of course, the NYCRR boats, unlike those of the PRR, were not equipped for upper deck loading...........

Did you notice that this 1956 photo was grouped into the "New York City Transit" photo collection?
Should have been in with the "Soiface" photos.............
