From NFI, MTA has contracted for 2090 new Xcelsiors:

I suppose these units will replace most or all remaining Orions, as well as some older New Flyers and Novas.
Now that NovaBus has announced their departure from the US bus market,
the LFS and LFSA eventually will become "orphans" in the big MTA fleet.
In a separate announcement on NYSDOT's website, I saw that MTA has requested their own board to approve Prevost as a single source supplier.
This suggests that no new MCI cruisers will be purchased going forward.
This is, as Yogi Berra said, feels like "deja vu all over again", except that GM and Flxible had competed for the US transit bus business years ago, while NF and (for smaller and mid sized agencies) Gillig are competing today. |
